If you’re looking to cover your underfloor heating and/or provide a solid, smooth foundation for your final floor, you should screed your floor. It’s also required if your current floor is uneven, as this could affect the structural integrity of the floor when/if the top floor layer is installed.
What is SCREED?
The screed is a type of concrete poured on top of the structural concrete or on top of the insulation, with or without underfloor heating, on top of which other floor finishes can be applied. It can also be left uncovered.
SCREEDING - What is its purpose?
The screed primary purpose is to give smooth and level floor finish on which to lay your chosen floor finish.
How thick the screed should be?
Optimum thickness of bonded is 25-40mm, an unbounded should have a minimum 50mm , where floating screed should be over 65mm fo light load and 75mm for heavier floors.
